If you encounter issues like, login credentails of the site not working/ some unexpected results, this could be caused due to /tmp partiton gets filled. The partition size can be verified using the command,
#df -h | grep /tmp
Normally, the file contents is session files with the extension as sess_****. This can be deleted without any hesitation using the command
#rm -rf sess_*
There are cases where the /tmp is fill, but there is no contents inside it. This is because /tmp can be used to store virtualized files. This details can be obtained from
# lsof | grep /tmp |grep deleted --> You will get a pid from this command.
#ps aux | grep <PID> --> To get details of the proc file.
How to fix.
1. Type #lsof /tmp, you will get pids associated. if most of the pids are consumed by a particular process, stop the process, then start the process.
2. Kill the pids associated with #lsof /tmp
3. Restart the server.
Now , verify the /tmp size using the same command.
#df -h | grep /tmp
#df -h | grep /tmp
